Family Getaways on a Budget

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

With the dog days of summer right around the corner, now is the time to get planning on that family trip before it’s too late to save.  It is very doable to take your family on a little getaway and still stay on budget.  Below are some ideas so you can make it happen.

Local Fun

You don’t have to take a long road trip to find fun things to do on vacation.  Try picking a nice local hotel that has either an indoor and outdoor pool – or both!  Most major hotel chains even offer the kids stay free and include a nice, free breakfast.  This is a great way to save on gas too.  If your town has public transportation, this is an, even more, fun way to get to your hotel.  Make it fun and go public!

Theme Parks

With all the package deals you can find this time of year, or if you were clever enough to buy your tickets over the winter at an even better rate, then hit a local theme park for a family day of fun.  If you can, pack a picnic and hit the parking lot and set up a foldable table and chairs to make it an even lower cost day.

Camping Fun

Book a campsite and take the family on an adventure.  Nothing keeps a family bonded more than a campfire and smores.  Pick a great location where there are free kids activities and if you have tweens or teens, leave the electronic devices at home or in the car!

Try Sharing

The newest vacation craze these days is taking a “sharecation” with another family or relatives to ease the costs.  This is a perfect way to get to take a longer trip and even stay in a nicer hotel, rental home, or cabin.  Split the cost of meals and have each adult or teen plan and prepare a meal for everyone to enjoy.

All-Inclusive

One of the best ways to go on a fabulous getaway with the whole family is to select an all-inclusive resort.  Kids typically stay free, eat free, and there are always fun things for everyone to do.  Sign up for the kid’s club programs too for extra perks as well.

Try to plan early to save the most money, except when those last minute getaways come up.  These trips are last minute for a reason because the hotel needs to fill up or the cruise has many open spots.  This is another opportunity to sign up for travel websites and newsletters, so all the best deals are delivered right to your inbox.

Avoid the stress of overspending because fun family getaways, should be just that – fun!

Great ideas! We are planning our annual trip to Port Aransas for July. I like to bring the crock pot so I can have a good meal cooking all day while we’re at the beach! #HomeMattersParty

Camping is one of our favorite budget friendly getaways. We also live 2.5 hours from a large amusement park and try to get there every summer! Love these ideas – thanks for sharing!
