8 Simple Tools for Raising Great Kids Book Review

Parenting is my hardest job title that I carry. As a result, I read parenting books in hopes of gaining some type of guidance and assistance with the tough topics of raising my kids. I have read many parenting books that don’t provide actual examples of how to fix this situation. The [easyazon_link identifier=”0802413870″ locale=”US” tag=”tidbitofexp-20″]8 Simple Tools For Raising Great Kids[/easyazon_link] is a wonderful parenting book.

About 8 Simple Tools for Raising Great Kids

Whether you find parenting intuitive or impossible, we could all use a hand here and there. Let child psychologist and father Todd Cartmell walk you through the nuts and bolts of healthy, effective parenting.

Using examples from his home and 20 years of professional practice, Todd gives eight essential and practical tools to help you:

  • Maintain a healthy relationship with your child
  • Develop a nurturing home culture
  • Correct behavior in lasting ways

Designed for busy parents, 8 Simple Tools breaks each tool into five short chapters that include a summary tip and application questions. Use even half of the tools in your parenting, and your family dynamics will thrive. Your relationship with your child will be built on love and trust, providing you with fertile ground for planting God’s wisdom in their heart, and ultimately, seeing them flourish.

My Review

I didn’t find any new advice in this book per say. However, what I did find was short positive reminders of eight principle things parents can do to improve their relationships with their kids. Ultimately, that is really the emphasis behind this book. Dr. Cartmell teaches that in order to have great kids we have to have a solid relationship with them. The book did provide some examples

The book did provide some examples and ways in which we can make the situations better with changing our techniques. I think many of their suggestions are worth implementing. I have tried to use a few of them, and so far have seen SOME positive changes. However, my kids are a bit more challenging than the type of kids listed in his books.

I do feel that this book will come in handy for many parents. I would rate it a 4 out of 5 stars. The reason I don’t give it a full five stars is because the overall principles are not very different than what I’ve read elsewhere.

I'm Crystal. I'm married to Dale, and mother to Johnny. Some might say that my life is perfect because I get to do all the cliché wife things like cooking, cleaning, and decorating - but there's more! I also have many hobbies including needlework (crochet), sewing, and reading. My son's education is important, so we homeschool him together.
