Life Lesson Quotes To Motivate You

I love to gain wisdom from those who are older than me. I have spent many a day listening to stories of older couples who have been friends of the family for years. To this day, I will go visit them to gain life quotes to motivate me. I read a post on Huffingpost a while back called 25 Life Lessons We All Can Use, From a Very Wise 99-Year-Old Great-Grandpa.  He gave two life quotes lessons that stuck with me.

Why just be anybody?

This one stuck with me because there are many times that I’ve felt like I was in competition with someone to win a race that was nonexistent. I strived to be like them. I wanted to do the things they were doing, but the truth of the matter is I can’t do what they are doing because of various reasons. However, what I can do well, is work with the circumstances I have and make the most of the moments I have to work.

Like all of you, I have many talents. Just like many folks though, I don’t capitalize on the skills I do have. I spend too much time trying to learn new abilities that I miss out great opportunities that are already in front of me. Are you guilty of that one?

This man’s advice made me realize that I need to change my actions and work with the skills that I do possess. I need to spend my energy on working smarter. I don’t need to be spinning my wheels trying to learn a new skill that I know I won’t be able to master with ease.[egg id=”2″]

Life is a gift you must unwrap.

I can’t express how much I love this statement. There are so many obstacles in life that we can’t predict. We can do a lot today to prepare for tomorrow, but when you get right down to it you nor I have any way of knowing exactly what we’re going to wake up to the next day. We can savor unwrapping each moment. As long as we’re alive we have the gift of life. That is a precious thing to grasp. You can’t fully appreciate it until you’ve looked death in the eyes.

“Savor every experience. You never know who can learn from yours.”

I challenge you today to savor every experience you have. You never know when your experience is going to be the lesson that saves someone from making the same mistake you did.

Which one of these life lesson quotes gets you motivated the most?

  1. “You must be able to forgive, even if it’s difficult to do.” is the greatest of all to me. It’s a motto, a lesson, and a forever very difficult task to do.

    • That is a remarkable quote. I have used it many times as a reminder in my life too. You’re right that is is a very difficult task. Yet, forgiveness isn’t so much for them as it is for us.

  2. These remind me of a quote I have on my son’s wall: “Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?” Mary Oliver It reminds me every time I see it that I have this one life and I need to use it and the specific gifts and talents God has given me for His purpose. Find God’s better future for me and live into it.

  3. In high school I worked at a Care Center. Oh my goodness, those people have lived, and there was just so much wisdom there to be unwrapped. Loved spending time with them. Sometimes I would even stick around after my shift was over! My Great Aunt Velda lived there, and she was just the cutest sweetheart! Thanks for passing on these words of wisdom today and for reminding us to slow down and listen to the wisdom of others!

That is such a sweet story to share with us. I bet you’re filled to the brim with a lot of wisdom yourself due to listening to their stories. You’re right the older generations have lived in more ways than we have in my opinion.

  4. Really nice inspirational post today Crystal. I like the wise words and it’s always nice to hear. I pinned of course and hey I see you have your own coffee cup now, so we must talk about that. The world used to listen to elders more than they do these days so have sought out wisdom well.

  6. I stopped by for Thoughtful Thursday and love your posts. My mom had so many quotes and I still hear them in my head. My daughter recently said that she has said some of these things too – the quotes continue through the years !! One one of my favorites is – “Pretty is as pretty does” and “If everybody jumped off a bridge would you do it too?” this was in response to me saying “Everybody is doing it.” Just brings a smile to my face. Thanks so much for sharing !!!

  8. Great post and wonderful quotes! I especially like the second one because it mirrors a lesson my family has learned through dealing with chronic illness – to find small moments of joy in every day, even (or especially) when you are facing challenges.

I have just started rebooting my life for the next phase of five years and in some things I will be near the top and some things right smack at the starting bottom.
