Decoration Inspiration

Recently, homeowners have started to see their bathroom in a different light. No longer is it simply a place where you take a bath or shower, it’s now become more of a mini-spa, and homeowners feel that it should be decorated as such. It’s not uncommon for people to spend large amounts of money on remodeling their bathroom, but they still want to make sure that it’s done right the first time by using the very best materials. After all, “prevention” is much better and much cheaper than “cure.” Here are a few tips to make sure that you don’t have to re-do your remodeling job.

Have A Proper Substrate

If you find that your substrates are useless for tile installation, you’ll need to put in some extra work in properly waterproofing and leveling your substrate in order to have a perfect tile covering. Schluter systems is one of the most highly recommended universal substrates since it can be used in so many versatile applications.

is unique because it can be used as both a multi-functional substrate as well as a structural panel. You’ll find that with the product you’ll also be able to have a foundation for other substrates, such as wooden stud frames, masonry and metal.

Pay Careful Attention To Waterproofing

Many times homeowners are shocked to learn that tiled surfaces cannot be guaranteed for waterproofing. While an adhesive can be both water and grout-resistant, that doesn’t mean that it will always keep water from soaking its way between tiles. One reason for this is that so many of the newer showers are able to release water at extremely high pressures, so you’ll need to make sure that you do everything you can to keep water out of the tiles and instead down the drain. Schluter polyethylene is an impenetrable membrane that has become one of the most asked for products when remodeling or construction projects call for water proofing.

There are actually two parts to waterproofing: knowledge of the need for waterproofing and knowledge of what type of waterproofing to use. Schluter waterproofing products are intended for tiles as well as plasters, renders, timber and plaster board. There are also different ways that you can apply waterproofing, such as liquids that you can spread with a brush. This method is just as effective as any other, but it takes longer since the waterproofing coat has to dry before you can start the tiling.

Know Your Options

Whether you decide to remodel your bathroom yourself or if you choose to hire a professional, you should make yourself aware of all of the options available to you. Schluter installation is also available for tile finishes in cross-brushed, titanium, graphite, stainless steel, chrome and aluminum. You can also buy tile protection products, such as transition/edging profiles, movement joints and tile trim profiles. It’s a good idea to visit your local home improvement store, flip through magazines and watch home improvement shows to get an idea of all of the things that you can do with your bathroom. This will also allow you to get an idea of how much your remodeling project will cost you.

Take your time and be patient when it comes to home improvement. Cutting corners and going too fast can cost you in time and money later.

  1. I’m impressed at your knowledge of bathroom tiling. I so wish we had the time and money to retile our master bathroom. The tile is haunting me!

    • I found it to be a good input as well. 🙂 Tile though is actually fairly easy to put down once you get started. Of course, I also love going to places like Freds and Lowes and get the big squares of tiles since they are cheaper and do the same job. 😉
