90 Minutes in Heaven

I love to read an inspirational story about how a person’s life has been changed by God being in charge of it. I don’t often preach or share my personal story about God being in my life. I know that I should do it more often because I feel God pushing me to share my thoughts and opinions often. Yet, I’m not a good solider of faith because I don’t always follow the requests he gives me to do. I got the chance to review [easyazon_link identifier=”0800759494″ locale=”US” tag=”tidbitofexp-20″]90 Minutes in Heaven Book[/easyazon_link]Review thanks to FlyBy Promotions, and it sent chills throughout my being while I was reading it. He also shared one Bible verse about God’s plan that has really inspired me.

About the Book

Don Piper was on the way home from a conference when his car was crushed by a semitruck that crossed into his lane. Medical personnel said he died instantly. While his body lay lifeless inside the ruins of his car, Piper experienced the glories of heaven, awed by its beauty and music. Ninety minutes after the wreck, while a minister prayed for him, Piper miraculously returned to life on earth with only the memory of inexpressible heavenly bliss. Then his grueling recovery began.

This movie edition includes a new preface from Don, true stories from readers about the effect [easyazon_link identifier=”0800759494″ locale=”US” tag=”tidbitofexp-20″]90 Minutes in Heaven[/easyazon_link] has had on their lives, and more.

My Review

If you haven’t gathered it already, I truly took pleasure in reading this book. This story will move you in ways you don’t expect. If you haven’t had a personal experience similar, then you may not grasp this story as much as I did. However, it’s such a gratifying account to read that you’ll be glad you took the time to read it.

I have several favored parts of this book. However, the part that stood out the most to me was the Longing for Home section. It reminded me how much I have let God down. I started this blog as a means of helping those who have been abused like I was as a child, and how I have dealt with it through the years and maintained my faith in God.

I find it HARD to share those parts of myself with you. It’s not an easy task to do. However, like Piper, I have an experience that allows me to bring comfort to people have been in similar situations. I feel I can provide them the knowledge that God truly does have a plan for lives despite the pain that happened to us.

There are several bible verses about God’s plan for us. He has made it clear in several verses that he has a plan for us long before we are born. I don’t personally believe he lets/plans out the bad things happen to us in our lives. I believe that because we all have our own free will to make our decisions.

[Tweet “RT: I DO believe that God takes the bad things that do happen and turns them into good things!”]

Like Piper, the verse that sticks out to me the most is 2 Cor. 1: 3-4 NIV. This verse provides hope and even encouragement. It tells me that even though I’ve gone through the darkness of life there is a VAST silver lining. There is a plan for him to make it worth the pain and the heartache. If I follow his guidance, he will show me how myself AND OTHERS will benefit.

This is such an inspirational story that they decided to turn it into a movie too. I’m eager to see the movie! There’s even a video devotional study guide too.

  1. I think that in life we can learn through pain or through love.
Unfortunately, we are rarely ready for the lessons of love and the only option we are left with is pain.
Life is a blessing and shouldn’t be taken for granted.
I’ll be adding this book to my read list. You got me curious.

  2. He has impacted me many times and continuously. I had a near death experience when my daughter was born, we were both code blue. Thong story short, it helped me realize happiness in my life more. It is mostly on how we look at things, what happens to us, around us, and so on. It doesn’t come from outside of me, but from within and yes, through Him.

  3. God has always been a strong part of my life, but when I hit 40, some circumstances beyond my control spiraled my world downward, but I got involved in several women’s Bible studies and kept my faith. This support helped me make it through this trying time. Praise be to God!

  4. I was a small child in a frighteningly abusive home. My mother had mental illnesses that were not treated. But I remember feeling protected, being directed to enter my own world and create stories, and later when i was older, to write those stories as a way to escape, a way to soothe and heal. I know God was working through me and helped me survive what was truly a nightmare.

    • I’m sorry to hear you had such a childhood. It’s never fun to deal with those kinds of situations. I’ve also got a very similar past.

  5. God impacts my life on a daily basis. I always have little blessings and things everyday. However the one story that really comes to mind is that a few yrs ago my papaw had a severe stroke. The doctor said there was nothing he could do and basically was just waiting for him to pass. My papaw”s preacher came to the hospital and prayed for a miracle. Needless to say we got our miracle. He was even able to drive again.
