Halloween Scare

I do declare trick or treating has DRASTICALLY changed since I was a kid!!! I actually got to take the kids door to door trick or treating this year with my father-in-law. There were hardly ANY lights on nor was there hardly anyone actually going door to door seeking to get candy. It was like a ghost town. The boys actually got to knock on maybe 12 doors and get candy from them.

I noticed there were very few people taking their kids from door to door as well. I guess the drivers out there were not being considerate of the fact that there were trick or treaters roaming the roads either. There were two times that the boys almost got run over because the drivers were not paying any attention and driving to fast for the conditions.

I may notice the fast drivers more than the regular Joe because I was one of those fast drivers when I first started driving. I didn’t pay a lick of attention to what was around me or my surroundings. I regret that now, and wish I had payed attention back then. I’m very grateful that I never hurt anyone while I was driving recklessly.

It just seems everyone is afraid to really do anything as a community. Are we afraid of opening our doors to people we don’t know? (I know I have some fear myself to do it.) Has our world become overly dangerous that the traditions that were alive even 20 years ago are pretty much dead and gone now??

How was trick or treating in your neighborhood??

I'm Crystal. I'm married to Dale, and mother to Johnny. Some might say that my life is perfect because I get to do all the cliché wife things like cooking, cleaning, and decorating - but there's more! I also have many hobbies including needlework (crochet), sewing, and reading. My son's education is important, so we homeschool him together.
