Disclosure: I did receive this book a part of the Book Connection. It did not change my opinion of this book any form.
This book was given to me as part of the Blogger Connection Book Club. However, it was a remarkable book. I’m not into historical romance normally, but this one definitely got my attention from the word go.

I was amazed just how little women were treated with respect during that time frame. I literally felt I like I was reliving parts of my abuse throughout the book with the way she described how it felt to have to have sex with other men just to have them be a means to an end for her. The sad fact is there are many cases that have been documented of women being treated like that during that time frame. I know of several women who feel that they have to be treated this way in today’s society as well.

In order to survive, she literally felt like she had no other option but to become a mistress. St. John didn’t really seem like a terrible man overall. I mean he did things that many women in today’s world would frown upon. However, I’ve lived through those types of settings myself as a young girl. So, for me it wasn’t that big of a deal. It would be shocking though to someone who’s never lived it.

It would amaze you how women will do “what she must” in order to survive. This book definitely kept you wondering what she was going to do next. I personally found the ending to be interesting. Some of the other readers that were reading it with me didn’t agree so much.

I do recommend this book for anyone who enjoys romance. If you enjoy historical romance then you would enjoy this one for sure.
