Solitude

Do you need solitude? Via SITS Girls August Prompts

As a wife and a mother to three kids, I definitely need time alone. Of course, if I were to be 100% honest, I needed it long before I became a wife or a mother. I’ve always suffered with mood swings growing up. Some days were worse than others.

I found that riding horses helped me with keeping moods swings in check. If I got to bad my friends would tell me that I really need to go riding. It wasn’t a matter of really actually riding horses though as much as I thought. Yes, riding horses is a wonderful thing and the bond between a horse and rider is unique.

However, I’ve since learned that it really wasn’t the horses that calmed me down. It was having time ALONE with nature in the peace and quiet that has made the difference. It was me being able to be FREE of all interruptions and NOISE from others.

I was able to spend time thinking about what I wanted to dream about instead of having to worry about making others happy. I was able to make ME happy. I could escape having to worry about work or anything else of importance for two hours.

I know that there are many people who can relate to the feeling of wanting to just RUN away from your family and friends just to escape for a little bit of time without them around. Yet, I still feel guilty for feeling this way. I feel like I shouldn’t ever want time away from my family. Then on the other hand I know it’s vital for them and me.

As I go into a new school year, I realize just valuable my time is going to be. Unfortunately the way we’ve started out our homeschool years, it’s next to impossible to teach both boys all of the major stuff together. (I do it as much as I can, but it’s not a whole lot in the grand scheme of things.) That leaves little time for me to unwind and relax, and I start to resent everything and everyone else for the amount of down time they get to have.

Tell me do you need solitude too?

I'm Crystal. I'm married to Dale, and mother to Johnny. Some might say that my life is perfect because I get to do all the cliché wife things like cooking, cleaning, and decorating - but there's more! I also have many hobbies including needlework (crochet), sewing, and reading. My son's education is important, so we homeschool him together.

  1. I hear this! Some days I miss living alone because I liked coming home to silence and solitude (and no mess that I didn’t make, but that’s another topic!).

    • That is a whole another topic, but definitely a legit one for sure! I enjoyed being single, but I wouldn’t trade my husband and kids for anything either.
