Simple Quilt Projects For Kids

I’ve been talking about making a bunch of quilt projects for kids with Crystal for some time now. We’ve already got a couple ready to share with you all. Delbert was with me the other night, and he saw all my pretty strips of scrap material laying around. He asked if he could have it. Of course, being the Granny that I am, we dove into to making what I consider a “Hanging Quilt.” It’s really simple to make these quilt projects for kids.

In order to make these quilt projects for kids you don’t need a lot, but the ability to allow your kids to use their sense of imagination.
Ingredients
  • Hole puncher
  • Elmer’s Glue
  • Scrap Fabric
  • As many pieces of Card Stock you want them to fill up.
  • String
  • Scissors

Instructions

  1. Give your kids a piece of card stock
  2. Then let them pick out the pieces of fabric they want to use on their quilt.
  3. I personally let Delbert cut up the fabric into little fancy pieces. Using a fabric cutter will make the process quicker and easier.
  4. They need to design their quilt placing their fabric pieces in the order they want. (If you want to turn this into a fancy math lesson, you can have them trace geometric shapes and then have them cut those shapes out and see how they can fit the most pieces on the card stock.)
  5. Then you have them glue each of the pieces of fabric on their card stock in whatever pattern they made.
  6. Then you take each piece of card stock and use the hole puncher to punch holes at the top of each of the card stock pieces.
  7. Then you put string in them to connect them together.
  8. You take your final string and make it a bit longer so that you can hang it up on the wall.

This is what the final project will look like. I bet your kids will smiles just as wide as Delbert’s.

  3. That looks really simple, but very effective. I reckon my 4 yr old could manage it and make something to be proud of.
