Mother and Son The Respect Effect Book Review and Giveaway

I’m deep in the trenches of dealing with a preteen boy who is soon to be a full blown teenager. For me, that seems to be quite a challenge to take on. I do declare we haven’t gotten through to many days lately without there being some type of tension between us. Of course, that was BEFORE I read the book [easyazon_link identifier=”0849948215″ locale=”US” tag=”tidbitofexp-20″]Mother and Son The Respect Effect[/easyazon_link] thanks to FlyBy Promotions sending it to me to review in exchange for an honest opinion.

Emerson Eggerichs, Ph.D. is already well-known for his Love & Respect books for couples. In turn, he decided to write a book dedicated to mothers to help them see that their sons need their respect more than their love. Mother & Son shows how to implement the “Respect-Talk” into a mother’s interactions with their son during conflict resolution situations.

My Review

I read this book with an open heart and lots of hope because I do remember how much [easyazon_link identifier=”1591451876″ locale=”US” tag=”tidbitofexp-20″]Love & Respect: The Love She Most Desires; The Respect He Desperately Needs[/easyazon_link] impacted my marriage. As I was reading [easyazon_link identifier=”0849948215″ locale=”US” tag=”tidbitofexp-20″]Mother & Son : The Respect Effect [/easyazon_link] I realized just how LITTLE bit of respect I gave Jimmy. I was always taught that kids EARNED respect from their parents.

I was always taught that kids EARNED respect from their parents. This book showed me that I was only hurting my relationship with my kids by having that mentality still. Giving him respect is especially hard to do when he’s acting quite childish! When I fail to give him respect, the ugly circle rears its enormous head.

I’ve learned through this whole respect and love process with all the guys in my household that it does truly make a positive difference. I tend to get further with them when they see that I’m not trying to downgrade them or feel less than the man(/man in the making). They hear my pleas a lot quicker and remarkable changes take place.

I would say that this book helped me see things in a different light. He did give examples on HOW to talk to my sons throughout the book. I felt that it was worth getting to review. I do recommend mothers read [easyazon_link identifier=”0849948215″ locale=”US” tag=”tidbitofexp-20″]Mother & Son : The Respect Effect [/easyazon_link].
