Fuller House Netflix Exclusive #StreamTeam Review

As I told you last month, I have been a fan of Full House since I was a little girl. I was super thrilled with the chance to watch the first six episodes of Fuller House in advance to give you my honest opinion of it thanks to being a part of the Stream Team crew.

About Fuller House:

In Fuller House, the adventures that began in 1987 on Full House continue, with veterinarian D.J. Tanner-Fuller (Candace Cameron Bure) recently widowed and living in San Francisco. D.J.’s younger sister/aspiring musician Stephanie Tanner (Jodie Sweetin) and D.J.’s lifelong best friend/fellow single mother Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber), along with Kimmy’s feisty teenage daughter Ramona (Soni Nicole Bringas), all move in to help take care of D.J.’s three boys — the rebellious 12-year-old Jackson (Michael Champion), neurotic 7-year-old Max (Elias Harger) and her newborn baby, Tommy Jr (Messitt Twins).

Guest appearances by John Stamos (Jesse Katsopolis), Bob Saget (Danny Tanner), Dave Coulier (Joey Gladstone), Lori Loughlin (Becky Katsopolis) and Scott Weinger (Steve Hale).

Fuller House is from Miller-Boyett Productions and Jeff Franklin Productions in association with Warner Horizon Television for Netflix. Robert L. Boyett, Thomas L. Miller and Jeff Franklin are the executive producers of the series, which was created by Franklin. John Stamos is a producer.

My Review

I see how the producers are trying to keep the same wholesome family love that was found in Full House. D. J. Tanner, Stephanie Tanner, and Kimmy all are working together to raise the D. J.’s kids and Kimmy’s daughter. D.J’s character is raising her kids with loving discipline and helping Kimmy to do the same with her daughter. Of course, Aunt Stephanie gets to be the cool one with the kids.

I do like how these three women are created to be inspirations to other mothers in our world. They still look amazing even after having kids and going through hardships. They are hard working mothers and still dedicated to raising their kids the best of their ability. They also value friendship too.

It’s almost a complete spin-off of Full House, with the roles changed to the current parenting generation. For a parent who was raised up on Full House and wants to share this experience with her own kids, it’s a great addition to the original show.

I believe that those who weren’t HUGE fans of Full House when it first aired on TV will not fully appreciate this new Netflix exclusive series. I’ve already seen some negative press put out for this series. I have to agree with the Yahoo post’s comment:

The magazine’s Chief TV Critic Maureen Ryan predicts, “Those who enjoyed the original ‘Full House’ and who don’t mind its patented blend of cloying sentiment, cutesy mugging, and predictable humor might find enjoyment in this unspectacular retread. However every time John Stamos wanders through ‘Fuller House,’ we’re reminded that it’s possible to see a better version of this sitcom — in Stamos’ ‘Grandfathered,’ for Fox.

I was expecting to see more of the original adults from Full House. For me, that is becoming more of a disappointment than I expected it to be.

UPDATE:

I finally got to watch the REST of Season 1 over the weekend. I got to see MORE of the adults in the later episodes which definitely made the series more entertaining for me. I still like this series!! I am hooked. I can’t wait to see what happens in Season 2 with D.J. and her suitors.

However, as one of the readers pointed out, it’s not as wholesome as I originally thought because there is a lot of things of the “world” that are done and shown throughout this series. I will still watch the series, but I haven’t let my kids watch it with me. I couldn’t pin point why until her comment was added.

Wholesome Movie Recommendation

The good news is, though if you find you DON’T like Fuller House, I do have a solid movie recommendation for you to watch instead.

If you’re looking for a wholesome good movie to watch with the family, I do recommend The One I Wrote for You. It has a nice message about not giving up on your dreams, and not losing your soul to do it.

Are you looking forward to watching Fuller House on the 26th?

  1. I can’t imagine that this could possibly be good, but I loved Full House as a kid! As an adult, I can barely get through a single minute! Glad you watched it so I don’t have to, haha!

  2. Honestly, I watched Full House all the time as a kid and now my kids love to watch it. We are ordering Netflix just so that we can all watch this new series together. I know going into it, there are going to be less of the adult men in the show but that allows us to get to know some new characters. We will see what happens in 2 days when it finally airs. Thanks! 🙂

  3. Hey Crystal!

This is my first time visiting your site. I found you through Beth’s Wedded Wednesday link up. Your post was virtually at the bottom of the page, but I saw it since I went to leave a comment. Ha! It’s good to be here. And thanks for this fine review. My daughter is going to love this series. And thanks for the movie recommendation: The one I wrote. I plan on watching it very soon!

    Blessings,

  4. Geeze, they look exactly the same! I’m definitely going to have to watch this show. Why did they have to go and make DJ Tanner a widow though? Just like her dad? That’s so sad. But I can’t wait to see it when it airs out here. #ProductReviewParty

    • It’s worth it to pay the monthly subscription to have Netflix for Instant video. I don’t get to watch many shows due to our limited data caps, but I do take some time to watch it.

I hope you get the chance to watch Fuller House (even if it’s at a friend’s house.)

Thank you for stopping by and commenting. I look forward to seeing you again soon.

  7. Hi, Crystal!

Thanks for linking up with us at Friday Finds and Favorites hop. 🙂 I am really enjoying Fuller House so far…I’m only 5 episodes in. I see DJ as more like Danny, Steph as more like Uncle Jesse, and Kimmie more like Joey. I think they’ve done a great job so far of keeping it fun and interesting. 🙂

    • It was odd seeing them older and the roles reversed at first.

  10. Saw a little of Fuller House. I thought it was suppose to be a great show with “good” characters, so I browsed through a few episodes and what did I see? Boobs! Skimpy dressing! Drinking (Seems they love tequila)! Clubbing! Tons of sexual innuendos! DJ, Kimmy, Becky, and Stephanie get drunk at a bachelorette party and come home with men’s(stripper) underwear. Candace Cameron says, “Awww we should drink all the time.” Wow! Skimming through another episode, the girls are in a night club, dressed skimpy, drinking tequila, and dancing sexually with two men they met at the club. Well, that was enough! Yes, you do see some family love and support, but that’s not the point! I do not believe this is not a good show according to what the Bible tells us to set our minds on! Nothing pure or wholesome about this sort of lifestyle!

    • You know, I didn’t examine the show in that perspective a lot, but looking at the show through your eyesight I can see your point 110%. I’m glad that you voiced your opinion in that regard.
I felt like they kept the drinking and “nightly” activity away from the kids and didn’t pay it much attention. I was more focused in on how they were interacting with the kids more than anything else. That was the aspect of Full House that pulled me into it as a kid.

Thank you for stopping by and commenting. I do hope to see you again soon.

  11. Ok, so this sounds cheesy to me, but I would still love to give it a try! Waiting to subscribe to Netflix in another month or two when another netflix original I love comes back with a new season. Can’t wait!

    • Some people are offended by some of the things are shown in this show. I’d suggest you watch it prior to watching with your kids. I personally had planned to watch it with my kids too, but after the first episode, I quickly stopped having them watch it. I couldn’t pinpoint why until a commenter gave me my reason.

Thank you for stopping by and commenting. I hope to see you again soon.

    • I love that it does too. I think that aspect of the show is truly neat.

Thank you for stopping by and commenting. I hope to see you again soon.
