The League and the Lantern Review and Giveaway

Jimmy has become quite the bookworm. I’m LOVING it! I love to see his nose buried in a good book because not only does it keep him quiet and entertained, but I know he’s enhancing his skills in various ways. When Flyby Promotions offered us the chance to review [easyazon_link identifier=”0997227001″ locale=”US” tag=”tidbitofexp-20″]The League and The Lantern[/easyazon_link] I was intrigued because I figured it could be a book that both Jimmy and I could read and discuss.

About The League and The Lantern

Synopsis:

[easyazon_link identifier=”0997227001″ locale=”US” tag=”tidbitofexp-20″]The League and the Lantern[/easyazon_link] is the first book in a new adventure series for middle-school readers. It all starts when a dangerous organization invades Jake Herndon’s seventh-grade sleepover. He escapes along with two new classmates, Lucy and TJ, only to face a 48-hour fight for survival on the streets of Chicago. The kids unravel a mystery dating back to the Civil War, and an incredible secret about Jake’s family. Along the way they learn unexpected lessons about courage, family and friendship.

Our Review

Jimmy saw the cover and was instantly eager to dive into reading it. He did read it in a matter of three days time without an ounce of complaint. He chuckled quite a bit while he was reading it. He constantly tried to tell me what was happening in the book, and I kept having to remind him that I would read it too when he was done. I had to start reading it right after he finished just because of how enthusiastic he was about it.

Jimmy is actually eager to talk to me about something again. It’s fun to see this in him because he can share this passion for reading with me. It’s nice to be able to connect.

What he didn’t realize is this book is filled with 140 vocabulary words throughout the story. He also learned a bit of history from the various settings of the story. It also taught him the value of relationships and compassion. I also saw a lot of teamwork having to take place too.

Overall, I would highly recommend [easyazon_link identifier=”0997227001″ locale=”US” tag=”tidbitofexp-20″]The League and The Lantern[/easyazon_link] for readers ages 9-14. However, it’s safe to say that anyone who can read this book will find themselves curious to see what happens to the main characters.
